Group Therapy

Group therapy is a powerful and transformative way to heal and grow. It offers unique opportunities to reflect on ourselves, feel truly seen and understood by others, build empathy, and recognize that we are not alone in our struggles. There’s something profoundly validating about sitting with others who “get it” — and together, finding hope, strength, and new tools for navigating life.

At Parkland Psychology & Wellness, Dr. Amy Wendell and our practicum therapists have co-led several groups — all of which have been incredibly well-received and attended. We’re passionate about continuing to offer spaces where people can connect, learn, and heal together.

Groups Offered Thus Far:

Coping Skills Group
This 16-week closed group (the same members attended throughout) provided psychoeducation and hands-on learning. Participants explored four core skill areas: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness.

Each week, members practiced new skills, engaged in role-plays, shared their real-life experiences, and supported one another in applying what they learned outside of group.

Come Home to Yourself
Our most recent group, Come Home to Yourself, ran as an 8-week series co-led by Dr. Amy Wendell and practicum therapist Megan Secord, B.A.

Each session blended mindfulness, psychoeducation, and group sharing, with topics such as self-compassion, trauma and the nervous system, boundaries, and exploring personal values. This group created a brave space for participants to reconnect with themselves, deepen their understanding, and feel supported by others on a similar journey.

What Our Group Members Are Saying:

Participants have shared how powerful it feels to realize they are not alone in their struggles—that everyone carries things we often can’t see. Having a safe space to be real and share openly has been a gift. Many describe feeling lighter and less alone after group, as they reconnect with their feelings and give themselves permission to express what’s been held inside. They’re also grateful for the resources and tools offered, allowing them to continue this work beyond our time together. For some, simply carving out this space has been a profound act of self-care—a way of finally putting themselves on the list, which feels like a big and meaningful step.

Consultation & Community Outreach

At Parkland Psychology & Wellness, we believe deeply in the power of connection and the importance of proactive mental health education. We’re passionate about getting out into the community — whether that’s visiting workplaces, schools, churches, or community groups — to share knowledge, spark conversation, and create space for meaningful connection.

In a world where we’re constantly inundated with information, stimulation, and surface-level connection, we’re yearning for deeper understanding and authentic human interaction. Our outreach services are designed to help groups slow down, come together, and learn practical skills that foster emotional wellness, resilience, and connection.

We provide engaging, interactive presentations and workshops on a wide range of topics — and we’re always open to tailoring something specific to meet your group’s needs. Past topics have included:

  • The Power of Self-Compassion

  • Mindfulness

  • Emotion Regulation

  • Trauma and the Impact on the Brain and Body

  • Mindful Parenting

  • Suicide Awareness: How to Help a Friend

  • Basic Listening Skills

  • Coping Skills

  • Interpersonal Effectiveness

We also welcome conversations about how therapy works, how to recognize when someone might need support, and how to connect loved ones with professional help. Our goal is always to reduce stigma, increase understanding, and empower people to care for themselves and each other.

If you feel your business, school, or community group could benefit from a workshop or presentation, please reach out. We’d love to collaborate and brainstorm ways to support your group in a meaningful way.
