Your Path to Balance: Yoga, Nutrition, and Bodywork
Hey, I'm Alexis!
I have been working as a 200-hour certified yoga instructor for over a decade and a certified kids’ yoga instructor for seven years. I began studying yoga as a way to resolve my chronic back pain, and fell in love with the practice. I specialize in slow flow, yin yoga, power yoga, chair yoga for seniors, and kids’ yoga. My classes are designed to be inclusive for all levels. I provide several modifications for each pose as well as cautions for any contraindications. My goal for each class is to guide my students towards themselves, while maybe including a few laughs along the way. I aim to create space for reconnecting to their body, mind, and spirit through breathwork (pranayama), meditation, and movement (asana). Each class is designed to foster flexibility, mobility, strength, and mindfulness in a specific areas of the body. Yoga class will leave you feeling relaxed, grounded, and stronger.
As a certified Thai Yoga Massage Practitioner, my goal is to reconnect you to your physical body. Thai massage is a form of fully clothed massage on a thick floor mat, which provides a large area for more movement. It is a combination of traditional massage practices, acupressure, yoga poses, and fascial release. I use my hands, feet, elbows, and knees to apply pressure to the specific points along the body's energy lines. The massage involves a series of assisted stretches to allow my clients to deeply relax while enhancing range of motion. Pressure can be soft and relaxing, or deep tissue, depending on the client. Some clients experience deep emotional release.
I suffered with depression for the majority of my youth, and have personally experienced the transformative power of nutrition in managing this condition. So I went back to college and in 2018 and became a Registered Holistic Nutritionist. I am passionate about the science behind nutrition and the gut-brain connection. Because I am a holistic practitioner, we also discuss all areas of the client's life - including physical, emotional, spiritual, and environmental. True healing often comes when a combination of these areas are integrated. A consult is the first look at what the day-to-day looks like for the client, which problems arise, or where they feel stuck most. Here we determine what changes we can make that are sustainable and work with your current lifestyle. There are often emotional connections to our eating and exercise habits that we also delve into. Then I create an individualized plan that includes lifestyle changes, meal plans with recipes and shopping lists, and supplement recommendations. I aim to empower my clients to achieve optimal health and happiness through personalized strategies that honour each person's unique needs and preferences. My specialty is mental health, but I also enjoy working with clients on a wide range of issues, including autoimmune conditions, and weight loss.
